We had to be careful planning our Christmas break! We wanted to be able to see all our family, but not be on the road the entire time. We also have a trip planned to Florida on December 26th! Ryan and Katelyn headed to see her parents the week before Christmas and were able to stop in Mountain Home on their way! Erin was singing in her church on the weekend, so she only had one day off and it was the Saturday we were there! It so happened that Jeff, Jennifer and Meredith came to celebrate Christmas on the weekend of the 22nd too so that put ALL of us together for at least a day! Our family alone was in 4 vehicles.
Things I think of about Christmases in Mountain Home: the Christmas village, Dad's Christmas tree, the smell of "trash" (chex mix), Christmas plate collection and the family picture.
Grandpa insists on still doing stockings for the kids (on behalf of Santa) however this was a special year as he apparently emptied his drawers at work or somewhere and passed on copied newspaper announcements of my wedding, prayers for those who traveled, Red Candy Heart magnets and other non-essential memory makers. My kiddos all had a good attitude although they made questioning looks to me the whole time! My kiddos have spent almost every Christmas in Mountain Home, and enjoy the traditions my parents celebrate.
